Round Lake Advisory

Please be aware that water sampling has been done at Round Lake in December 2012 and August 2013 as a result of the High Arsenic Levels recently found in Long Lake by the Long Lake Stewardship and Ministry of Environment.

The result from Round Lake have also shown elevated levels of Arsenic.

Potential Health Hazards from Arsenic contamination include: thickening and discoloration of the skin, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, numbness in hand and feet, partial paralysis, and blindness. Arsenic has been linked to cancer of the bladder, lungs, skin, kidney, nasal passages, liver and prostate.

On-going water sampling and fish sampling have been scheduled to monitor the levels of Arsenic in the lake environment.

We will be sending out monthly notices to advise community members to please refrain from using waters of Round Lake until further notice. This includes the use of any fish species from the lake, and water for consumption or recreation.

If you have further questions or concerns please contact, Ester Osche, Lands Manager- Atikameksheng  Anishnawbek.
